To date, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship has awarded more than $5.5 million to approximately 2,069 applicants. Samsung scholarships may be used for undergraduate studies and applied toward tuition, books, fees, and room and board. Scholarships are awarded for two, three, or four years. Soldiers with two years of college remaining to complete their degree are considered for two-year scholarships. The purpose of the Bonder Scholarship for Applied Operations Research in Military Applications is to promote the development and application of process modeling and operations research analyses to military issues. The scholarship provides funding of $5,000 ($US) to support the development of highly qualified individuals and promote the interchange of military OR research knowledge.

A total of 500 scholarship grants, each for $2,000, will be awarded for school year 2019-20. There will be at least one recipient selected at every commissary location where qualified applications are received, and additional recipients will be selected based on a prorate basis, so more applicants will be selected from those commissaries with larger numbers of applicants. The program is open to sons and daughters of active duty, reserve/guard, or retired military commissary customers.
