On a breezy September evening, over 300 passionate veteran supporters rallied at The American Patriots Ball, raising over $150,000 to make free legal services possible for local heroes in need. With fierce hearts set to ensure veterans who defended our freedoms could access justice themselves, generous supporters joined Veterans Legal Institute to recognize the efforts of veteran advocates devoted to veteran wellbeing.

Philip V. Brozenick, Principal at Deloitte, was honored with the Rothenbuehler-Moehlman Veteran of the Year Award, reflecting the lasting vision of David Rothenbuehler and Mark Moehlman to increase veteran entrepreneurship and financial strength.

Rochelle Karr, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility & Alumni Relations for O’Melveny, was honored with the Veteran Advocate of the Year Award, for the scope of tireless collaborations in veteran employment across legal services, nonprofits, and governmental agencies.

Karen Butera-King, President of OC Women2Women, was honored with the Community Partner of the Year Award, for the heartfelt commitment to providing women warriors with resources to create stronger futures.

The celebration was held September 22nd at the Fashion Island Hotel in Newport Beach, CA. Guests enjoyed an evening with live music, VIP reception, dinner, silent auction, fund a need, and dancing. The event was an incredible success through the generous support of the 43 member planning committee, Gold Sponsors Hankin Patent Law, APC and Wright Ford Young & Co., and the many devoted patrons.

Because of this circle of support, Veterans Legal Institute will be able to continue its mission to remove legal barriers to housing, employment, education, and healthcare – so even more local heroes will live with greater self-sufficiency, dignity, and hope.
